Kids Cavern have been a client for many years and have grown significantly as a business with their owners' vision and ambition at the forefront of this growth. Founded in 1989, they have built up a reputation over the years as the go-to destination for designer childrenswear.

In an industry increasingly dominated by online-only retailers, managing director Danny Shelvey and his team choose to focus on experiential retail to better engage with their customers and encourage strong brand loyalty.

In the summer of 2019, to coincide with their 30th anniversary, Kids Cavern planned a move to a brand new, 10,000 square foot flagship store. Their aim was to not only construct a stylish and modern space to showcase the 100+ designer brands for children they officially stock, but to create a customer experience that both kids and their parents will love, and want to repeat.

At Pinnaca we understand the importance of shared customer experience and nurturing customer loyalty, and we were on board to show how Retail Pro and retail management software could help them realise their vision.

Convenience is a key factor for a good shopping experience, especially with kids in tow, and with Kids Cavern we are able to make the most of the functionality available in Retail Pro.

Thanks to Retail Pro sales orders, Kids Cavern is able to offer a layaway option where customers can add products to their account to purchase later. This benefits the customer with an uninterrupted in store experience but also opens up the possibility of repeat trips and further sales. Customers can also connect with the store via Instagram to add items to their account, encouraging further engagement and allowing the opportunity to highlight the latest products and offers through social media.

Along with a successful customer loyalty program through Smile.io (formerly Sweet Tooth), Kids Cavern have succeeded in attracting a faithful customer base and layaway sales orders now account for 25-30% of sales.

Kids Cavern’s sales are generated online and part of this success is as a result of their vision to use technology to enhance the customer experience, which was accomplished by upgrading their systems and integrating their online channel into the central systems.

With customers from the Far East, the US, Japan and the Middle East, the benefits of being able to offer worldwide shipping are obvious, but offering customers a unified brand experience across online and in store locations is also an important part of cementing Kids Cavern’s luxury brand identity.

We integrated Kids Cavern’s Retail Pro POS software with their Magento ecommerce platform to automatically synchronise POS data with ecommerce and web orders within Retail Pro. This allows optimised inventory, especially useful now Kids Cavern have recently added a third store to their portfolio, as well as streamlining operations and reducing manpower needed to manage this channel of the business. This also allows the offering of a Click & Collect service which, as well as being convenient, gives further opportunity for cross channel sales by welcoming customers into the store.

In early 2020, with the end of support for Magento 1 approaching, we were on hand to upgrade Kids Cavern’s website to the newer Magento 2 platform and they took this opportunity to have Pinnaca redesign and develop a brand new website. Kids Cavern, and their new stakeholders JD Sports, absolutely love the new website which, as well as being delivered on time and on budget, has seen their online business increase by up to 150%. They now have a robust and well-designed website that is easy to use and gives them the luxury feel they desire.
